A Ghastly Tale

Echoes from the Old Quarter, seen glimpsed strained through a glass-magnifying mirror device. Memory and the mind’s bejeweled clarity of perception. Alleys resounding to ancient laughter – long-ago summer days. The gorse was in bloom then, of course, and the wind raced and howled over the moors above the dreaming tiled village. Within the ‘Cretan Labyrinth’ lurked many a wonder… & wandering where the wind blew, my feet flew free and clattered on the cobbled crossroads-

Castle Pillars in the Air - Caterpillar 30

Let’s take a walk, in the company of one Elias Gillpington, and find out exactly what is happening in the old house on the corner – because they do say…..

Molecular Bases of Placticity

The land offers up its brittle cattle, its ashes, vetches, lichens, rocky ledges, meadows sweetly rolling down to the briny. Swaying panoramic fieldscapes, summer dust and a buzzard sails over, sharp and alert in feathery consciousness. Sycamores sculpted, calfling milling, pines green and blue. Woodsmoke scenting the air with mellow nostalgia. A furlong furrows the brow of the Earth. The great moor, a swampy lost jungle of goat-willow, sedges, rushes, sundews and methane. Dragonflies lurk; whorl; dance; buzz; turn; glint; spin; sparkle; glimmer and zoom – adrift adrowze on this sunny afternoon. Idhyowek chimmblys lost in the sunshine and nameless weeds resplendent in little valleys lost to man. And everywhere Babylon’s grey tentacles threaten my green land. Willowherb hints at flinty paths, Scotts pines and summer camps in canvas as cumulous rolls out the sky. Gaunt gorse crags, heather and peat. Menhirs mumble secrets of Arthur’s sleep. Ivy-clad gothick – the larches crumble in the sun. Tin-roofs rattle in rain, rousing dreamers to ozone-scented rainmurk. Soilcreep ripples as acorns fatten; lurking futurity of hearty solidity. Stag-headed elders, proud and noble, gaunt, stark, stripped of tannin bark wave brittle limbs through sun and dark. Golden blazing corn afar hints at a bright glazed future. Dandelion parachutes, golden poplars, all is agrow in Albion’s sidereal slumber.

Palpably Gnosient Psyche

Hi Babies! & Warm Greetings to all you readers of The Caterpillar, & all you random-house stumblers upon it by freakish accident. You are now entering a late and much shredded outpost of post-literary blog-posting. The old Chinese sage in silk robes paints poems & pictures on Mulberry leaves and sails them out of the windows of his breezy Pagoda, under a scudding moonclouddrenched sky. (Some call him mad – to him that is neither hear nor there) he scuds the painted leaves out from his narwhal tusk-tower, over the black shiny river, over the dark hills and fields of food where sometimes lovers lie, he sends out his little messages, never expecting a reply, response, reaction or comeback. Such is the contentment of the silken-enshrouded one. Like Satie, when writing his 7th Gnossienne, the leaf-painting poet does what he feels he must! And what of you, my friend; how is YOUR creative life going? Are you sailing out bubbles of humorous colour to bespatter the greyness of mondial mundanity? Old mad moon tower-dwelling inward pagoda man aspires for your collective sentient Happiness – Look- it’s written on the back of one of the Mulberry Leaves, in glittering silver ink!

The Caterpillar Dub 26 - wErDfLo

Hi & Welcome! Come on in & sit right down & make yourself at home! As the Hubbub of World Revolution swirls outside the door, the printing presses clack and spew. The wire hums and the teleprinter taps out its news. The tramp of running feet on the street outside is decorated with the minore sound of the tinkling bouzouki. The laughter of poets and the sonorous chanting of sutras flavours the clinking of shovels as they fill sandbags at inner-city barricades.
The World spins still in infinite depth, extending out in all directions. Still the atoms of reality cling together and make a worldpicture. Gravity continually organizes curtains for the Mind, and pulls the eyes downwards to sleepy habit. And slumbering still upon the tongue a dew-drop dances, shimmers, shakes and falls.
In this monthly mish-mash mashup from the dreaming skull, we push for Ahimsa. Awash with words, we reap the verdant verbiage and gather in wordage of worldwords and woolworths wobbling walabys.
And of the blue moon we sing.
And if Gillpington wanders afar from his beloved labyrinth, tis only to return refreshed, reflecting free energetic panayric.
Lyres plucked skillfully tell song of a Great legendary Worldegg hatching - hinting at futurity and potential Great Things for Humanity.
And turning on a gloaming cloud of Keltek mizzle, the shadow falls of the evening, darkling the ivy that clings to the little elder tree.

SEVEN SUNKEN CITIES

The rain spattered down on the granite seaside town, making ten thousand jewels dance in the road. Mixing the breath of the sea and the fields. Glazing over seven terracqueous towns. Further wetting the oldest of fish. Perforating the Great Meniscus of the Floating World. Down came the rain; rinsing the alleyways of the slumbering port of mortal Dreams.

The Caterpillar Dub 24

CHAPTER 24

A movement is accomplished in six stages
And the seventh brings return.
The seven is the number of the young light
It forms when darkness is increased by one.
Change returns success
Going and coming without error.
Action brings good fortune.
Sunset.

The time is with the month of winter solstice
When the change is due to come.
Thunder in the other course of heaven.
Things cannot be destroyed once and for all.
Change returns success
Going and coming without error.
Action brings good fortune.
Sunset, sunrise.

Stickyweed, nettles, sorrel, daffodils, violets and leaves on the willows. A sea-fog shrouds the Mount like cobwebs. The tide is far out and the sea is calm. Seaweed and rocks exposed by spring's far-reaching lunar meniscotraction. The breeze is still and birds are singing a song on this, the softest of days. Black beetle scurries slowly off into the undergroth. Insects sup from dandelion cups. Sea slops flat, slapping sloping rocks aslew. Wasps burrow into the hardened mud. Daffodils spangle the hill on which new pennyworts awake - above the cliff - the gaping triangular rock jags below, fringed by swirling surf. Violets peep from the melange of winter's sleep. Lizards yet lurk neath menek hedgerow strongholds. White tuffted stuff sprouts forth. White buds on the thorn like pearls. Mud mostly hard from dry-out drought drinks not drams of dew - yet hare-bells bloom and yet the air is sweet. Gorse! Gorse, you golden burst of coconut mirth! Marks of walking-sticks in the mud - dog claws and a fly rolls on its back on a granite stack. Another of the black green crawling tribe climbs a grass stem and by the trail a discarded glove fits no hand grasping what? Re-foliaging fuschia looks forward to the drowzy days to come. The very first sticky buds of the chestnut are breaking into leaf of lightest green, still furry and sleepy. And you, Robin Rudock, of course, you are here to greet me.
As for you, old sea, mor, flat, grey-glas swirling, sighing vast flat damp thing washing menek shores where the limpets cling and play, chanting their silent songs another day. Universal brine, other-world, realm of most moisture - boats ride your roof but fishes know your depth.
